Strengthening Access to Basic Services and Dignified Homes to Break the Cycle of Poverty
The primary objective of the habitat program is to give people access to decent housing with sanitary facilities and to carry out necessary community infrastructure, such as the construction of schools, roads or public buildings for basic services. The cycle of poverty and inequality can only be broken by improving the general livelihood of people living in rural areas.
This goal is primarily achieved by developing safe and habitable areas and improving the infrastructure in the villages. The creation of individual and collective assets (e.g. houses, community centers, public institutions) is crucial for overcoming social inequality, which results, among other things, from a lack of infrastructural resources. To support the most disadvantaged, the houses built by the foundation usually become the property of the women of the family or of a person with disabilities.

Poverty in Rural India
The Programs We Support
Fighting Poverty by Building Houses
- In rural India, many people live in huts in precarious and unsanitary conditions.
- This program aims to provide safe, healthy, and decent houses with sanitation facilities to disadvantaged communities.
- Houses with sanitation facilities contains diseases and the contamination of drinking and bathing water, an endemic sanitary problem in India.
- People with disabilities are very vulnerable and face discrimination within and outside their communities, so they have less opportunities to access a decent house.
- This project provides a habitable house to a person with disabilities that not only provides safety but also enhances their dignity both in the family and in the society.
